The basics
- Parents use the dashboard to set up chores, a reading & allowance contract, and to review what their child did.
- Kids sign in with their own username and PIN and see their “quest”: today’s chores, reading, their earnings, streaks, and badges. They can’t see any parent-side settings.
- Earnings are a family tally, not real money. RileyQuest tracks what your child has earned under your rules; paying out happens in real life, whenever you choose.
Accounts and roles
- Family owner (master account): the parent who created the family. Adds children and other adults, and manages family-wide settings like language and timezone.
- Helpers (parental & grandparent accounts): additional adults who join your household with limited permissions you choose (e.g. can see reading, can approve chores).
- Co-parents: a child’s other parent, invited by the family owner to co-parent a specific child. A co-parent has their own home with its own chores and earnings for that child, sees the child’s shared reading, and can also belong to their own separate family. See “Co-parenting” below.
- Children: profiles created by the family owner. Kids never have an email or password of their own — just a username and PIN that a parent sets.
Co-parenting
If a child splits time between two homes, the family owner can invite the other parent to co-parent that child from Dashboard → Custody & co-parents. Here’s how it works:
- Invite by email. The co-parent gets a link to set their own password and join. Co-parenting is free — your subscription covers the child.
- Set a custody schedule. You pick your days on a repeating 1–4 week rotation; the co-parent automatically gets the opposite days and confirms them on a calendar. For a one-off holiday or event, propose a day swap and the other parent accepts.
- Separate chores & earnings per home. Each parent sets their own chores and allowance for the child, and can only set chores on their own days. The child sees only the chores for whichever home they’re in that day.
- Shared reading. Reading is tracked family-wide; each home can reward it under its own contract.
- Content-safety sign-off. If one parent loosens a content filter for the child, it stays on until the co-parent agrees.
- One co-parent per child. Different children can have different co-parents (blended families), but each child has at most one.
Belong to more than one family? Switch between them with the family menu at the top of your dashboard.
Your data
From your child’s settings page you can download everything RileyQuest has stored about them as a single file, or permanently delete it. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
